Tomodachi Life personalities are not random. Each Mii personality type comes from the combined values of Movement, Speech, Energy, and Thinking.
Use the calculator to test your current slider values, or pick a target personality to see one slider recipe that gets that result.
The chart below lists all Tomodachi Life personalities, including regional names and localized names where they have been checked.
Choose the wording closest to your game. This only changes names and labels; the personality formula stays the same.
"Overall" has no effect on personality type.
The example shown in Pick a Personality mode is one reliable setup, not the only possible setup.
Movement + Speech chooses one axis, and Energy + Thinking chooses the other. Overall is not part of this formula.
Many 3DS-style charts appear to match player testing, but names, colors, labels, and wording can differ in Living the Dream.

Movement, Speech, Energy, and Thinking decide the 16 personality type result.
Overall / Normal / Quirky does not change the 16-type result, though players report it may affect flavor or small behavior differences.
Dreams, island interactions, and tiny behavior examples are useful observations, but not a fully proven formula.
Use the personality chart to pick each target type, then copy one valid slider recipe for that type. There are 16 personality types in total.

No. Nintendo previously hosted an official Tomodachi Life personality quiz for the 3DS game, but the old quiz URL now redirects to a Nintendo game page. This page is a fan-made calculator for the in-game personality sliders, not the retired Nintendo quiz.
No. A Mii personality is calculated from the Movement, Speech, Energy, and Thinking sliders. The calculator shows the result before you finish editing the Mii.
No. Overall / Normal / Quirky is not used by the 16-type personality formula. It may still affect flavor, interactions, or presentation, but those details are player-tested or anecdotal rather than a confirmed personality formula.
Yes. You can edit the Mii again and change the slider values to move them to another personality type.
Tomodachi Life uses different names across languages and regions. This chart shows localized names where we have verified them, with English names kept for comparison.
Most wrong results come from regional name differences, copying one example as if it were the only valid recipe, or using a chart with different slider wording. This calculator uses the known range formula and shows one safe example plus the valid range.
Based on player testing, the core calculation appears very similar, but names, colors, descriptions, and localized slider labels can differ. Use old charts as a reference, then confirm the result with this calculator and your in-game terms.
Yes, for friendship. Miis in the same personality group bond faster and with less friction. For romance, personality is not the deciding factor. Dating preferences and random crush development drive romance, not personality matching.
Same-group Miis (e.g. two Easy-Going types) become friends most easily. Cross-group pairs can still form strong bonds with enough repeated interaction. Individual quirks can cause friction even between same-group Miis, so same group does not guarantee a smooth friendship.
Not directly. There is no personality compatibility system for romance. What matters is that both Miis have matching dating preferences. Crushes then develop randomly as the relationship progresses.
Yes. Open the Mii editor and adjust the four sliders to move the Mii to a different personality type. Changing personality also changes the group, which affects how easily that Mii bonds with others going forward.
Personality affects how easily Miis become friends. Miis in the same personality group bond faster and with less friction. Romance is different: it is driven by dating preferences and random triggers, not personality matching.
Same-group Miis bond more easily and are more likely to become close friends or roommates. Cross-group Miis can still become friends, but need more repeated interactions. Individual quirks (the Little Quirks system in Living the Dream) can cause friction even between same-group Miis. Same group does not guarantee a smooth friendship.
Warm and low-conflict. Same-group pairs rarely fight but may lack dramatic moments.
High-energy bonds that form quickly. Two Energetic Miis together are lively and spontaneous.
Slower to open up. Same-group pairs are steady and loyal once the bond forms.
Goal-driven and direct. Same-group pairs respect each other but can clash over who leads.
There is no personality compatibility system for romance in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. What actually matters is that both Miis have matching dating preferences. Crushes develop randomly as relationships progress. Focusing on personality matching for romance is a common misconception.
I came across a spreadsheet someone built on Famiboards that analyzes dating possibilities on your island, tracking each Mii's dating preferences to figure out who could realistically find a match. It's a much more useful tool for romance than trying to pair up personalities. Living the Dream's support for nonbinary Miis and diverse dating preferences makes this more interesting than the old "just balance your M:F ratio" advice from the 3DS days.

Confirms that Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream has no personality compatibility system for romance. Dating preferences and random crush development are the actual romance mechanics.
