Making Steps

Editorial notes based on creator, source, or submitter information.

Make the large board with a treasure stamp such as the roadside stone; the Mars rock may also work. Lower the saturation, brighten it a little, then draw the board grid with straight lines. For the pieces, shrink one black sphere and one white sphere until they read as stones on the grid intersections. Black and white round tables, benches, and street lamps help the scene blend into an outdoor cafe or park area.

Recreation Notes ?
When I was playing Animal Crossing before, I always wanted to create a large-scale scene like this where the ground serves as a game board and villagers can move around on it. Back then, the pattern sheet grid design limits meant I could only make a small section and never got to do it properly. Since all the Miis on my island have a classical Chinese aesthetic, it's a bit of a shame that the interactive furniture with higher usage rates tends to be in wood tones. This scene happened to make good use of black-and-white tables and chairs (the tables are also round, so they blend naturally into the game board), and I also placed some black-and-white benches and street lamps nearby. The whole thing ended up feeling like an open-air café in a theme park — I really love watching the residents rest and chat here! For the game board floor tiles, you can use the Treasure stamp tool — roadside stones (or Mars rocks should work too) — pull the saturation down and brighten the value slightly — then draw a grid with straight lines. Make two black-and-white spheres and shrink them down to the size of game pieces, and they'll look just like stones placed naturally on the intersections.
