Making Steps

Editorial notes based on creator, source, or submitter information.

Start from the official kimono shape. Build the motif with the hexagon template plus a little hand drawing, then copy the finished piece widely. For the gradient, make a white base and fill the lower half with the gradient pen. Switch to overlay mode and sweep upward with the gradient pen: about four overlaps at the very bottom, fewer overlaps as you move up, and one pass at the top. If the transition is uneven, sample a middle color and patch it with the solid pen. Any colored stripes visible on the screen should be much less noticeable in game.

Recreation Notes ?
The last post got so many comments, I was really touched — so I struck while the iron was hot and made a male version. The base pattern is still from the official pattern sheet, and the design references @花筏和服店长. This version requires a bit more drawing — roughly using the hexagon template plus some freehand work. Once you finish one, you can copy it on a large scale. Let me explain the gradient drawing approach: start with white as the base color, then use the gradient pen to fill the lower half. Then switch to overlay mode and continue sweeping the gradient pen from bottom to top — overlap about 4 times at the very bottom, gradually overlapping fewer times as you go up, until just one pass at the top is enough. For any spots where the transition isn't quite seamless in the middle, just use the solid pen to sample the color from that area and touch it up. Not sure why there are some strange colored stripes visible on screen, but they're basically invisible in-game — tested and confirmed usable.
