Making Steps
Editorial notes based on creator, source, or submitter information.
For a no-DIY forest island, use only default items and avoid strict grid counting. Base the overall layout on an Animal Crossing starting island, dig two river mouths linking river and sea, and add a small heart-shaped side island as a private sightseeing spot. Keep enough open space so Miis can interact, then use heavy greenery and small parks to fill the island.

Island design is done! Feeling really accomplished, so happy ><
Since island design in Tomodachi Life is so convenient, I've had way more motivation to do it than in Animal Crossing, so these past few days whenever I had free time I was basically just doing island design 🥹 And the nice thing about a forest-style island is that you can plan the overall layout and then just take it one step at a time — no need to carefully count grids.
The overall island layout was inspired by the starting island in Animal Crossing. I dug two ocean inlets to connect the rivers to the sea, and on top of that there's a cute little heart-shaped secondary island, used exclusively as a scenic spot for housing. Almost every area has spots where Miis can interact, with plenty of open space left for everyone. I originally wanted to build a long ocean highway connecting the two islands, but looking at it now it seems a bit short hh
Then came the crazy amount of greenery and mini parks… otherwise there are just way too few buildings on the island — not counting the built-in shops and such, there are only 7 Mii houses.
Overall, the island design feature in Tomodachi Life is pretty fun. The one downside is that the selection of default items is a bit limited right now, and without DIY, the decorations can start to feel a bit repetitive TT But this person is quite lazy and went with the philosophy of "don't make it if you don't have to," so in the end I just went with all default items.
